Getting Started with MoltBot on Emergent
This guide covers the complete beginner guide for 1-Click Install MoltBot (now OpenClaw) on Emergent and extending it to Telegram and WhatsApp.
By the end, MoltBot will be running autonomously and accessible outside the Emergent interface.

Prerequisites
- Modern web browser (Chrome recommended)
- Google account
- Telegram account (optional)
- WhatsApp account (optional)
- No API keys required to start
Step 1: Open Emergent
Go to:
This is the main entry point for launching agent chips.
Step 2: Select the MoltBot Chip
- Locate MoltBot on the home screen
- Select the chip to proceed
This chip is a preconfigured autonomous agent template.
Step 3: Start Setup
- Press Enter or trigger the primary action
No configuration screens or forms appear.\
Step 4: Automatic Background Provisioning
Emergent provisions everything automatically:
- Cloud VM agent runtime
- MoltBot tools and dependencies
- Default LLM configuration
- Secure, isolated execution environment
Setup usually completes in 2–8 minutes.
No user input is required.
Step 5: LLM Key Handling (Default)
- Emergent provides built-in LLM keys
- No OpenAI or Anthropic credentials are required
- You can start immediately
Adding your own API key is optional.
Optional: Use Your Own Anthropic API Key
When This Makes Sense
- You have an Anthropic Max plan
- You want control over billing or limits
- You’re testing specific Claude models
For most users, skip this.
Generate an Anthropic API Key (Local Only)
Prerequisites
- Active Anthropic Max account
- Claude CLI installed
- Logged into Anthropic via terminal
Steps
- Open your local terminal
- Run:
claude setup-token
- Copy the generated API key
- Store it securely (do not share or commit it)
Add the Key to MoltBot
- Return to MoltBot on Emergent
- Select Anthropic as provider
- Paste your API key
- Save configuration
MoltBot will now use your personal key.
Step 6: Setup Confirmation
When provisioning finishes, you’ll see:
“Open Claw started successfully”
This confirms MoltBot is live.
Step 7: Sign In
- Click Continue with Google
- Sign in with any email
This creates or links your Emergent account.
Step 8: Default Agent State
At this point:
- MoltBot runs on a cloud VM
- No access to your local device
- Web tools and APIs are available
⚠️ If the agent is not published, it stops when the session ends.
Step 9: Connect MoltBot to Telegram
Create a Telegram Bot
- Open Telegram
- Search @BotFather
- Run /newbot
- Choose name and username
- Copy the API token
Connect Telegram to MoltBot
- Paste the Telegram token into MoltBot
- Find your bot on Telegram
- Send a message (e.g. hi)
- Receive pairing code
- Enter code in Emergent
Connection is now complete.
Test
Send:
Send me five random life philosophies
MoltBot should reply in Telegram.
Step 10: Connect MoltBot to WhatsApp
Start Connection
- In Emergent, ask:
Help me connect my WhatsApp
- Open Channels / Integrations
- Select WhatsApp
- Click Show QR
Complete Connection
- Open WhatsApp on your phone
- Scan the QR code
- Enter phone number if prompted
You’ll receive a confirmation message.
Step 11: Cross-Platform Usage
After setup:
- Message MoltBot from Telegram or WhatsApp
- Context is shared across platforms
- You can instruct platform-specific actions
Example:
Send a summary of today’s AI news to my WhatsApp
Note:
If connections fail, go to the Channels tab in the Control UI and complete setup there.
Step 12: Publish the Agent (Important)
To keep MoltBot running continuously:
- Click Publish in the Emergent interface
Publishing is required for:
- Scheduled tasks
- Cron jobs
- Monitoring
- Background automation
Unpublished agents stop when the session ends.
Step 13: Scheduled Tasks & Automation
Once published, you can run recurring tasks.
Examples:
- Hourly AI news summaries
- Daily Twitter monitoring
- Morning reminders
- Language practice nudges
These run automatically.
